Our commitment
Empowering Minds Community Support Services is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We are continually working to improve the user experience for everyone and apply the relevant accessibility standards.
Conformance standard
We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible for people with disabilities, including vision, hearing, motor, and cognitive impairments. They also make web content more usable for everyone.
What we've done
- Semantic structure: pages use proper heading hierarchy, landmark regions, and descriptive link text.
- Keyboard accessibility: all interactive elements (links, buttons, forms) are reachable and operable with a keyboard.
- Focus indicators: clear visual focus outlines show users where they are on the page.
- Skip link: a "Skip to main content" link appears at the top of every page for keyboard and screen reader users.
- Color contrast: text and interactive elements meet or exceed WCAG AA contrast requirements.
- Alternative text: meaningful images include descriptive alt text; decorative images are marked as such.
- Responsive design: content reflows on small screens, zoomed views, and with text-only browsers.
- Form labels: every form field has a visible label and supports assistive technologies.
- Clear language: we write in plain language and define technical or clinical terms when we use them.
Known limitations
Despite our efforts, you may encounter some accessibility issues. Known limitations include:
- Some PDF documents linked from this site may not yet be fully accessible. If you encounter a PDF you cannot read, contact us and we will provide an accessible version.
- Some third-party tools linked from this site (for example, our Electronic Health Record or HR portal) are controlled by outside vendors; their accessibility is their responsibility.
- We do not currently provide video content on this site. If we add video in the future, we will include captions and transcripts.
Requesting accommodations
If you need information from our website in an alternative format — such as large print, accessible PDF, audio, easy-read, or a translated version — please contact us. We will work with you to provide what you need.
Similarly, if you need accommodations to access any of our services — interpreters (including ASL), accessible transportation, accessible meeting spaces, or other supports — please let us know in advance and we will make reasonable efforts to accommodate.
Feedback and complaints
We welcome feedback on the accessibility of our website and services. If you experience an accessibility barrier, please tell us:
Email: accessibility@empoweringmindsnc.org
Phone: [Main office phone]
Contact form: Contact page
Please include a description of the barrier, the page or feature involved, and the assistive technology or browser you were using (if known). We will respond within 5 business days and work with you to resolve the issue.
Formal complaints under the ADA and Section 504
As a recipient of federal funding through Medicaid, we do not discriminate on the basis of disability in our programs and activities. If you believe you have been subjected to disability discrimination, you may file a complaint with:

Ongoing work
Accessibility is an ongoing effort, not a one-time project. We review this site regularly, test with assistive technologies, and incorporate feedback from the people we serve. If you have suggestions for how we can do better, we want to hear them.
